Avoid The Smurfs movie at all costs

I feel it is my duty to warn you.  The Smurfs movie is supersonically bad.  I know, you think Neil Patrick Harris is funny (he is, usually).  You might have nostalgia for the old Smurfs cartoon (please no).  But there's a cameo by...

District 9 is a wildly original, thought-provoking movie.  And that's saying something in a Summer movie season...I mean we just saw Transformers II, people (by the way, skip that one).  I can't say very much about the plot of District 9 or...

Jane Eyre is an outstanding book and one of my favourites (if not the favourite). Thanks for this review Rosemary, I will seek the movie out. If you watched it at the cinema, I'm presuming it may be a while before it arrives in Britain. I, like you,...

You know a movie is good when images from it are still hanging around your brain several days later.  The new Jane Eyre adaptation is doing just that.  I originally read (and loved) the Charlotte Bronte book ba ck in 5th grade, so I was...

From the opening scenes to the awesome (don't miss them) ending credits, Super8 completely mesmerized me.  If you're old enough to have loved Stand by Me and E.T., this movie will grab you and not let go. The central action concerns a gang...

When I first saw the trailer for Hugo, I was perplexed. It looked like it was a movie for kids, but it was directed by Martin Scorsese.  Now that's intriguing.  I noticed also that it was in 3D, a format I usually just tolerate, not...

I wanted to see it so badly until I found out that Handy Smurf wasn't in it. I had the hugest crush on him as a child and was looking forward to seeing him in a live action movie but... I was told he's only in it for like twenty seconds. *sigh*

This film is absolutely fantastic.  I went to it because it seemed like a original and engaging Sci-Fi movie, which is rare.  It lived up to my expectations, and in many ways surpased them.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  The charming story from 1938's children's book is almost unrecognizable in this un-charming movie.  There are indeed penguins.  And there is a Mr. Popper.  But the similarities end there. ...
